[RIP] Teena Marie
My parents were fans so I feel like I inherited their love for her. This is one my favorite ballads of all time. I also included her appearance on The View. She'll live on forever in her music and in our hearts. Condolences to her family and most of all her daughter that she always spoke of so fondly.

Pharrell Visits Miami Edison High School (2009)
The video was posted a few days ago, but the visit took place in 2009 and I think again earlier this year judging by the end footage of Pharrell sporting his mustache. Read the full story behind his visit here.

What Ever Happened to... Krush - Let's Get Together (1992)
The chorus of this song has spent the last 24 hours stuck in my head. I couldn't remember the name of the group, but I remembered it was from the Mo' Money Soundtrack. So I did a YouTube search and kazaam, someone posted the video in 2008. The only thing I could find about this group is that it consisted of Christy Williams, Ashley Jackson, Angie Smith. I remember them having a Cross Colours ad of all things to remember about them and seeing this video while I was in the dressing room at Merry Go Round shopping for an outfit for the Coca Cola Summerfest with LL Cool J. I only remember in such accurate detail because it was the first I went shopping by myself which was major for my 12 going on 13 year old self. It would be the first and last time I ever saw this video until today.

Fans will march in support of Lupe Fiasco's highly anticipated third album Lasers
October 15th will be more than just another Friday, it could be a historic moment that could change the face of the music industry as we now know it. The movement has been christened "Fiasco Friday" a day when Lupe Fiasco's fans, along with the artist himself, will march in protest to Atlantic Records offices in New York City. What started as an online petition, has blossomed into a rally against injustice. When a record label decides to shelve or delay an album there has never been a ripple effect felt to this magnitude. Lupe's "Lasers" project has been delayed by Atlantic going on 3 years. The petition which has garnered nearly 30,000 signatures from fans around the world has yet to garner any response from Atlantic. Maybe Atlantic is looking for 500,000 - 1 million. Even if you are not a diehard Lupe fan, I think its important you show your support in some way. Follow the movement on twitter @fiascofriday. The details on October 15th are as follows: The rally will form at Grand Army Plaza, on the corner of 59th and 5th, by the statue of William Tecumseh Sherman at 11:30 AM.
The march will begin at 12 Noon heading towards 6th Avenue, also known as The Avenue of the Americas and up 7 blocks to Atlantic Records offices, located at 1290 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10104, where the protest will formally begin. If you wish to not partake in march you are encouraged to meet in front of Atlantic offices at 12:30p. Signs are encouraged but keep it classy, no profanity. For more information and updates http://www.fiascofriday.com/.

B.o.B - "Put Me On"
Not really a "throwback" throwback, but I've been watching all the promo surrounding the VMAs this year and wow, I remember watching this video on VH1Soul thinking this guy is dope and actually put some thought into this song. The Bonita Applebum is what caught my attention the first time I heard it. Now he's everywhere, HE GOT ON, lol. The VMAs are live tomorrow at 9/8c on MTV.
Fashion's Night Out @ Billionaire Boys Club: N*E*R*D shuts down West Broadway
I made another trip up to NYC for Fashion's Night Out at Billionaire Boys Club. N*E*R*D shut the street down to give a performance. I stayed out of the crowd this year, opting to go for a stroll around. I know I ended up at Adidas and copped some surprise kicks. I had no intention of buying sneakers but they were calling my name from around the corner ( I swear because I had no idea where I was going I just started walking). So my buy a t-shirt for a VIP pass to meet & greet Pharrell went towards those, cocktails, and some midnight chicken & waffles. I just loved the Friends With You wrapped Escalade and matching stage, that was really slick. So I got a great shot of them entering the area, after that I ended up in the back. Glad I had my camera because I couldn't see, I just held it up and zoomed in. Check out the BBC Blog for pics. Enjoy!

Remembering Eddie Griffin (May 30, 1982 – August 17, 2007)
I realized today that this week marks 3 years since Eddie Griffin's passing. I found a great tribute clip.
In case you are unfamiliar with his story, Eddie Griffin was a promising basketball star, he spent the last 3 of his NBA seasons with the Timberwolves. On August 17th, 2007, Eddie's SUV collided with a freight train, his blood alcohol was said to be three times above the legal limit. He was just 25 years old. I didn't know Eddie but I knew of him from my neighborhood where I grew up in Philly. He was a standout star in high school and was projected to be the next Kobe Bryant (He went to Seton Hall for a year before entering the NBA). Sadly, there have been so many tragedies that have followed in the sports world, Sean Taylor, in November 2007, and the most recent being Steve McNair in 2009 and Lorenzen Wright this past July 2010.

So 3 of the Best (will be Legendary) Producers walk into a studio...
Pharrell Williams, Kanye West & Swizz Beatz met up in the studio earlier this week. If I only could've been a fly on Kanye's blazer or maybe Pharrell's shorts, flies tend to like bright colors, wait, I think that's bees. Anywho, I also attended the Slurpee Battle of Bands with N.E.R.D on Monday 8/16 but this time I didn't take any pics or video because I wanted to really take in the show plus there was this tall guy in front of me SMH. Regret it now because I was so mesmorized by N.E.R.D's new song "Help Me". Pharrell was in rare form on this one. Hearing and seeing it live really gave me goose bumps. I so wish I recorded that now so I could share, but I did find a clip of the last 42 seconds. Hey its something...

Queen Latifah - Come Into My House (Live) and an Andy Rooney Moment
I found this on YouTube and it was right on time considering the lack of females in Hip Hop is a hot topic right now. This is from the 1991 Sisters in the Name of Rap Concert. I remember my uncle taped this for me because we didn't have cable at the time, lol. I grew up at a time when women were respected and didn't need to sell sex in order to get attention for their rhymes. Queen Latifah had Flavor Unit and it was her crew. So I really don't know when it became a woman needed to be down with a crew in order to have a platform. What happened to pure talent and being able to stand on your own? Why can't a woman lead her own crew anymore?
I just think sometimes we forget how many female emcees have existed and continue to exist in hip hop. Does it matter if they're on Billboard or not. You know how many male rappers exist and don't have or never had a spot in the top 10 or never went platinum? I just don't think women get invested in enough to fly or flop, so to speak. Of course its sexism because women can thrive and be successful (make money) but there could be a fear of women taking over the genre I always thought. I don't think its sexism on the part of the community because we mostly care about who can rock a mic, its the corporations that we let dictate to us what's hot. There are females emcees all over the planet, just because you only see Nicki Minaj right now, doesn't make her the only one in existence or the only one that's hot. Nicki didn't pop out of thin air, she put in her work to get to where she is so she was prepared. Its just annoying how the media has made her someone that everyone has to comment on because I think those that are insecure in their talent will try to be like her or the ones that have no talent will copy her style. Thankfully there are events like Can A Sista Rock A Mic? And I mean damn, didn't Trina drop an album this year? She hardly ever gets mentioned.

LEBRON JAMES RIPS OFF CAVALIERS JERSEY ON FRONT COVER OF HIP HOP WEEKLY'S NEW SPORTS LIFESTYLE MAGAZINE SKYBOXX
ON NEWSSTANDS AUGUST 3
JAMES LITERALLY CHANGES TO MIAMI HEAT JERSEY ON THE COVER USING 'PEEK-A-BOO' PUBLISHING INNOVATION BRANDED BY HIP HOP WEEKLY
NEW MAGAZINE FOLLOWS RECENT SUCCESS OF WORLD'S FIRST 3-D SWIMSUIT CALENDAR
MIAMI—Basketball legend and new Miami Heat star LeBron James is the first cover subject of Hip Hop Weekly's new monthly sports lifestyle publication Skyboxx, which features the "Peek-A-Boo" cover innovation that allows James to literally change from his former Cavaliers jersey to his new Miami Heat jersey on the cover of the debut issue. Set for release to over 30,000 retail locations August 3, the Miami-based, nationally-distributed homage to sports superstars is the latest publication from Hip Hop Weekly, the #1 urban entertainment magazine in America, whose publisher David Mays and Chief Brand Executive Ray "Benzino" Scott founded the seminal hip hop magazine The Source in 1988. Skyboxx's debut issue features over 250 photographs of James along with an in-depth history from his early life, his beginnings in basketball, and his rise to superstardom. The special edition also includes a "Hot Picks" buying guide to over 100 new sneakers, sports apparel items and other sports products.
Like hip hop Weekly, the format of Skyboxx was inspired by the major celebrity weekly magazines, which have continued to thrive on newsstands. "Skyboxx will cover sports, but no so much from the sports perspective, more from the lifestyle angle," said Chief Brand Officer Raymond "Benzino" Scott. "Athletes have become some of the most recognized and beloved celebrities of our times. There are a lot of things going on in and around their lives that people are interested in, so we will cover that on a monthly basis." Skyboxx's publishers believe that with the Miami Heat's new lineup they are poised to become a legendary team with a national following much like that of the Dallas Cowboys and the NY Yankees. Being based in Miami will allow Skyboxx easy access to dedicate at least 20 pages per issue to covering the Heat. Skyboxx is edited by Chris Wilder, who Mays and Scott previously worked with when Wilder was Editor-In-Chief of The Source Sports in 1997, the first magazine to showcase the hip hop culture going on behind-the-scenes in sports. Wilder went on to become an editor at Major League Baseball Advanced Media and The Philadelphia Tribune. He also contributed to ESPN Magazine and ESPNU.Com. Skyboxx will also feature a column in every issue by syndicated radio hosts the 2 Live Stews.
Skyboxx is the second major publishing expansion in the last month by Hip Hop Weekly. In July they released the first-ever "Flawless Beauties 3-D Swimsuit Calendar" packaged with the magazine's first annual Swimsuit & Summer Style Issue, featuring the most beautiful and ethnically diverse group of women ever assembled for a major magazine calendar and swimsuit shoot.
Hip Hop Weekly is already one of the more remarkable success stories in the magazine publishing industry, as the publication was launched and has flourished during what is widely considered one of the most challenging business environments ever for magazines. "During the last 3 years, as overall newsstand sales for the consumer magazine industry have declined, Hip Hop Weekly has been an outstanding bright spot, completely bucking the industry trend by experiencing sales growth of 20% for 2009 versus 2008," said Anthony DiBisceglie, VP of Business Development for Curtis Circulation, one of the leading magazine distributors in the world. "The magazine's recent entrance into the Walmart checkout program has also been very successful, and poises Hip Hop Weekly for expansion into the vast checkout sector of the newsstand business."
