[event] 'Mr. Philadelphia Socialite' Isaac M. Hamm III Celebrates Milestone Birthday with a Purpose

This Friday, December 23, IM3 Media CEO, Isaac M. Hamm III, will host his first annual charity birthday bash at Gallerie Isada, located at 3320 Collins Street in Kensington from 8:00pm to 2:00am. HHM had a chance to catch up with Isaac to talk about this upcoming event and how much it means for him to continue giving back to the city of Philadelphia.

HHM: What made you want to include a charity element into your birthday bash?

Isaac: Last year was the start of adding a cause to celebrating my birthday. Last year me and my staff (IM3Media.com) went out to Love Park to feed the homeless soup and I called it “Soup’r Saturdays”. Dec 19th was the date. It really opened my eyes to what people are going through. So I decided that this year I would work alongside an organization Chosen300.org located at 11th and Spring Garden street.

HHM: How did you become involved with the Chosen300 organization?
Isaac: I attended an event where proceeds were being given to the organization. I listened to their mission and wanted to know more so I did my research and set up a meeting with Brian Jenkins the founder of Chosen300. After our meeting I started coming to the center to help serve food. Each time I did it I had about 7 to 10 people come with me to help also. They do great things there. Outside of feeding people they also help them find jobs.

HHM: What goes into planning an event of this magnitude? How did you choose your venue?
Isaac: A whole lot (lol). It really takes a team to put on an event like this. It’s about five of us working on this party and things are moving like they are suppose to.  We have our press release going around trying to get the word out to local media to let them know about the event. Chaseing media is so much fun, sike. But I love what I do. The venue is the Gallerie Isada located on Collins street in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. This venue has all the bells and whistles from top to bottom and from inside to outside. Art work all on the walls. The royal color theme gives you a comforting feeling. It’s a must see and I came across this venue a while back for another event and fell in love with it.

HHM: How did you get the name "Mr. Philadelphia Socialite"?
Isaac: Well it was given to me by Ms. Dyana Williams, co-founder of Black Music Month. We were at Warmdaddy's, I believe, and she was shocked to see me out and about and she said "You are a Philadelphia Socialite". I had to go research all it took to be a socialite (lol). But it wasn’t until I was turning 30 that I wanted to use that title. I feel this charity birthday bash is going to set me up for greatness and I want to bring it in right. Giving back is a passion of mine and the best gift that I can give to myself is to give back.

[artist spotlight] Q&A with Johnny Crome - The New Bad Boy of Pop

HHM would like to introduce you to Johnny Crome, a singer/rapper/songwriter from New Haven, Connecticut by way of Brooklyn, New York. His upcoming project "Life In 3D" is lead by "Porn Star", a catchy and melodic single that is sure to peak your interest.

Check out our interview to learn more about this intriguing artist that you need to know.

HHM: Tell us about your project Life In 3D.
JOHNNY: The one question that I've pondered since I was born is, "what is the meaning of life?" It's really a question and theme that fascinates me. So, when I set out to record this project I wanted to touch on a plethora of topics. I wanted to do so by utilizing an array of genres and sounds to express my vision. At the end of the day Life In 3D is not only something that is entertaining, but it's thought provoking as well. In my opinion I think that's what art should be.
HHM: What are some of the challenges you've faced as an independent artist?
JOHNNY: I could run off a laundry list of "challenges", but they wouldn't be anything that you haven't heard before. Ultimately, I don't feel like I face any challenges. My intentions as an artist is to have my art received positively. That's really all I can ask for. Anything more than that is just a cherry on top. If you want to create music or any other art form just to get paid or be famous, then you're doing it for all the wrong reasons. The more people who embrace my music reassure me that I'm doing things the right way and adding positive energy to the world.

HHM: You have a very futuristic sound befitting of the moniker Johnny Crome. What made you decide to take on that name and how did you develop your sound?
JOHNNY: My name is based after a character from a book I read years ago called Come Home Johnny. The book was about the life and times of a futuristic rock star. I became enthralled with the character and I thought the name had a nice ring to it so it just stuck.
My sound is something that I’ve been developing over years. I’ve had the privilege to work with a lot of great producers and artists. So I just tried to learn as much as I can from them.
I have never been afraid to step outside of the boundaries of what people think a "Black" artist should be.  I listen to a lot of different genres outside of hip hop. Honestly, I don't consistently listen to a lot of hip hop anymore. Don't get me wrong, everything new that drops I listen to it. And sometimes I find a rare gem, but I do that just to be aware of what’s fresh and what trends are emerging. I am inspired by The Beatles just as much as I'm inspired by Jay-Z.  Right now Adele and Florence and The Machine are currently my favorite artists.  Hip Hop still sells, but artistically it needs to step its game up.

My music is extremely visual so I draw heavily from films and paintings. I’m a huge fan of directors Ridley Scott and Stanley Kubrick. I love the work of Salvador Dali and Picasso just to name a few.  I love architecture as well. I find the structure and design of cathedrals and mausoleums to be very fascinating. My inspiration comes from the extraordinary and the mundane. Therefore, my sound is something that continues to develop and evolve as we speak.

HHM: Do you prefer rapping over singing?
JOHNNY: I honestly don't have a preference. I deliver the record in whatever form it sounds the best. I don't really consider myself a rapper or a singer. I just create visions sonically. I never really know how I'm going to deliver it. I have a very awkward writing style.

I may go in with an idea or concept, but I'm never attached to it. Most of the songs for Life In 3D were written as I was standing in the booth recording. Once I get in front of the mic and I really start vibing to the music, it always changes. I compare my songs to paintings. The music is like a canvas, and it's my job to provide the proper paint to make the picture come together beautifully.

HHM: What would you like for people to know about you? Why should they follow and become a part of the Johnny Crome experience?
JOHNNY: I speak truth in my lyrics.  I have lived a life that a lot of people would die for. However, the topics I write about in my songs are things that truly matter to me. Life, death, love, hate, pain, anger, joy, glory, heaven, hell, religion, sex, money, and politics; these are topics that are important to me. I don't necessarily need people to follow me. I believe the universe attracts like-minded individuals to one another. So if you think in the same lane as I do and you enjoy my music, then that bridge will help us form some type of bond together.

VV Brown preps for sophomore album "Lollipops & Politics", Touring in Selected Cities

The tracklist for VV Brown's highly anticipated sophomore album "Lollipops & Politics" have been released and judging by The Playground mixtape it should be pretty damn good. The first single "Children" featuring Chiddy (of Philly's Chiddy Bang) was released digitally last month here in the U.S.

Other highlights on the album include "Be Yours", a Ronettes-style ballad introduced by a wall of drums and a dream-like killer chorus ("It's the only love song on the record," V V says, "I find it hard to write love songs when I'm happy") and "Like Fire" which opens against two minutes of fuzzed-out discordant synthesizer and builds to a cinematic, hurricane climax of strings and a voice unleashed. "I'm so proud of that song as I wrote it myself, played all instruments, and arranged the strings," V Vsays. Then there's "Famous", which V V co-wrote with her other producer Bjorn Yttling, of feted Swedish indie rockers Peter, Bjorn and John.

2. Famous
3. Red Balloon

R.I.P 2PAC - Holler If You Hear Me (1993)

Couldn't let today go by without blessing this blog with some Pac. September 13th is another day I will never forget. Back when you learned news over the radio, I heard Colby Colb on Power 99 announce it around 8pm on a Friday night. I just knew Pac would pull through. He never came across as a mere mortal and he was shot before so hearing that he was gone I was disappointed. I felt that all the East Coast v. West Coast drama was the cause, I have since matured and now know that VIBE was not a bible, but a magazine in business to sell crap to the youth. But trust when I came home from school and that magazine was sitting in the door, nothing else mattered. Oh Oprah would be on, but VIBE held my attention. I would soak up every word until bedtime. Now remember back in these days VIBE was wide and I would hate folding it to take to school, so I would place it as careful as I could so I wouldn't bend the corners or wrinkle a page. Til this day I am still this anal when it comes to my books and mags. Entertainment media was an entirely different animal back in those days. You really had to search for news, it wasn't so instant like it is now. #nostalgicmoment

Register Today! Coast 2 Coast Convention "Meet the New Music Industry" September 29-October 2, 2011 - Downtown Miami

Time has flown by, in less than 3 weeks the Coast 2 Coast Convention is going down. So many of you send in your music asking for feedback or asking for advice about breaking into the industry, well one of the most important ways is to get off the computer and start attending events and BAM...you will break into the industry. But in all seriousness, its important to learn from those doing what you want to do or is the person in charge of the people doing what you want to do. It may not necessarily lead to your big break, but its a step forward and may give you that much needed motivation to keep going. Its all a great way to network and put faces to screen names.

Weekend Passes are now $175

Big Sean Interview from VEVO

I can't help but notice how often Big Sean expresses he tears up over something. I can appreciate a rapper not acting all hard and uncaring all the time. I respect the sensitive stee-lo! (yes I'm bringing back stee-lo, I was listening to 702 earlier)

Rapper Rah Digga's Smartphone Battle Rap Application Straight Spittin' Now Available On All Platforms

Veteran rapper and former First Lady of Busta Rhymes' Flipmode Squad Rah Digga and Appalachian Apps are proud to announce a new smartphone application that allows users to battle rap each other, the first of its kind for Android, iPhone, Blackberry, and Nokia. Users all over the world can create profiles, buy beat packages, and earn the chance to even battle against bona fide rap celebrities.

Straight Spittin' is the only audio-based battle rap application that allows aspiring rappers to battle in either freestyle or written form, to select different beats, verse length, and the number of rounds. The application anticipates today's busy MC, giving them the option to schedule battles ahead of time, leave verses in their opponent's inbox or just hone their skills in rehearsal mode. One of the most exciting features of the application is the option for the public to vote for winners. As MC's win more battles, they advance from "Unsigned Hype " to "Gold " and eventually "Platinum" status, where they'll be scouted for global battle competitions.

According to Rah Digga, battle raps have and always will be an integral part of the hip-hop community. "As someone who prefers more aggressive rhyming, it's always refreshing to hear people rhyme like their lives depend on it," she explains. "Hearing battle raps can remind people of what a real lyricist should sound like...or not."

Having solidified her position in hip-hop as a gifted lyricist, Rah is now changing the world with her new app designed to give aspiring rappers a chance to show and prove themselves on a global stage at their convenience. Teaching aspiring rappers about the fundamentals of rapping and lyricism was the main catalyst for Rah's involvement with this application. She believes it's possible for someone to eventually get a record deal stemming from this app.

The application has been making great strides in the tech community. Straight Spittin' was recently awarded 1st place in AT&T Open Call Contest and was 1st runner up in Microsoft's Fast Pitch Contest. The app is also currently a finalist in Nokia's $10M Calling All Innovators Contest.

Straight Spittin' is currently available for download from all smartphone app markets as well as the app's website http://straightspittin.com and the developer's website www.appalachianapps.com.

Rye Rye Gets Remixed and Glammed Up

B-More's own Rye Rye is heating up the summer with hot music and very fab videos. This is on top of touring with Katy Perry. Aided by producers Blaqstarr, Diplo, Count & Sinden, and M.I.A., Rye Rye's long-awaited debut, Go! Pop! Bang!, is scheduled to be released later this year. Until then enjoy "Never Will Be Mine" featuring Robyn, and "New Thing".

Glamorous "New Thing" Video Features Designs from Prabal Gurung's
2012 Resort Wear Collection

In the video for her latest track "New Thing", fashion-forward fem-cee Rye Rye is decked out from head-to-toe in glitter-tastic garments by Prabal Gurung. The A-List designer handpicked her to be the face for his new 2012 resort-wear collection. "When I first heard one of Rye Rye's mix-tapes some time back I was immediately taken by how unique and dynamic her music was," Gurung previously told AOL Music. "Her authentic sound and tremendous energy was exactly what we were looking for, and I have always loved her bright, personal style." Last spring, Rye Rye collaborated with the streetwear brand Dimepiece for her "Hardcore Girls" video.

The kaleidoscopic "New Thing" video was directed by Kenneth Cappello and features choreography by JaQuel Knight. The track samples "Sunshowers" by M.I.A, which sampled the 1968 classic by Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band, "Sunshower".

WOLFGANG GARTNER & WILL.I.AM Premiere Eye-Popping New Video "Forever"

Grammy-nominated Ultra Records artist Wolfgang Gartner's bombastic new video for "Forever" featuring will.i.am just premiered online via Yahoo Music. Check out the eye-popping video from famed photographer and video director Nabil Elderkin right here:

In a previous interview with MTV News, Wolfgang explained how his collaboration with will.i.am came about, "[The song] was originally just an instrumental track that I had made that I sent to my manager, and he thought it needed vocals so he gave it to Will and Will liked it. And the next day, we had a track back with a full will.i.am vocal over it. It was just amazing. Didn't need any work at all. Just threw it on top of the track and we got a single called 'Forever.' Completely spontaneous and accidental but it's one of my favorite songs."

Currently, Wolfgang is touring the international festival circuit, making stops in Portugal, Belguim, Australia, the United Kingdom, Austria, Poland, and the United States. Performances earlier this year included dates at Bamboozle 2011 and the Electric Daisy Carnival.
